Overview

Cricket Creek, Kentucky, is a sweet river town known for its theater, shopping, and cuisine. But tough times are affecting the residents of the local retirement community—until a handsome hero shows up…

Savannah Perry loves her job as social director of Whisper’s Edge, a retirement community on the picturesque waterfront of Cricket Creek. Raised in foster care, twenty-nine-year-old Savannah feels treasured and loved by the retired residents, who treat her as their adopted granddaughter and rotate having her over for dinner. But the community is struggling to stay afloat financially—until Tristan McMillan swoops into town, rescues a dog, and, well, saves the day…

Business-minded Tristan bought Whisper’s Edge from his estranged grandfather to prove his worth to the curmudgeon and to turn a quick profit. He never expected to fall for the charms of a village of crafty retirees—or to fall hard for a small town girl like Savannah. Suddenly the man who knows all about making money finds himself needing lessons in love and what really matters in life…

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
The retirement community of Whisper’s Edge in Cricket Creek, KY, has its share of drama, comedy, and neighborly disputes. Yet heroics rarely enter the mix until Tristan McMillan “saves” Savannah Perry, social director and girl Friday, from drowning in the pool. The identity of her would-be hero gives all the residents a reason to rejoice: Tristan, the grandson of the former owner who had let Whisper’s Edge go to seed, has bought the development and given the go-ahead for the purchase of long-deferred necessities and repairs. Hero, indeed. Tristan is rather fond of the appellation, even though his motives are a bit less Sir Galahad and a tad more Donald Trump. He left his Cincinnati law practice to move back to his mother’s hometown to show up his intractable grandparent by selling Whisper’s Edge or developing the property himself, sans seniors. Yet the spirited Savannah, with her straight talk and unfettered optimism, has him reconsidering.

Verdict This latest foray to McLane’s rural enclave (after Perfect Pitch) has all the flavor and charm of a small town where everyone knows everyone else and doesn’t mind butting in when the need arises. With a secondary romance between members of the slightly older generation, Whisper’s Edge offers a comforting read where love does “trump” insecurities, grief, and best-laid plans.—Bette-Lee Fox, Library Journal

There's life & love in the old retirement community yet!

Savannah had never had a home until being "adopted" by the residents of Cricket Creek, KY's retirement community of Whisper's Edge. As its social director, this survivor of the foster care system has made a life for herself by making the lives of the elderly residents healthier & brighter. She is a survivor with a much sunnier outlook than her past would suggest. Tristan is a successful lawyer who purchased Whisper's Edge from his disagreeable grandfather in hopes of selling it for a quick profit to give his single mom the early retirement she deserves and as a jab in the eye to his unloving, non-supportive grandfather. But when he sees the community the residents of Whisper's Edge have forged between them, when he falls for Savannah and realizes his plans for development will deprive her of the only real home she's ever known, he'll have to decide what really matters and what he can - or cannot - live without.
LuAnn McLane has added another volume to her wonderful Cricket Creek series with its extended and developing little river town. Again there is a secondary love story as sweet & tender as the main one. And Tristan's mother, Maggie, will co-star as a secondary love interest in the November 5th release, Moonlight Kiss.
Kentucky romance readers, rejoice! Along with Elizabeth Bevarly and Teresa Medeiros to name just a couple of the Bluegrass State's other stellar romance stars, you've got another wonderfully talented and funny writer to add to your list of "must read" authors.

    Funny romance

Enjoyed the senior moments that made me laugh. This story gave me history of the Cincinnati area and images of the Kentucky area. Loved the romantic story.

Whisper’s Edge by LuAnn McLane takes us back to the delightful town of Cricket Creek, KY.

Savannah Perry is thriving in her job as social director at Whisper’s Edge a local retirement community. She never had a family nor a place of her own till these lovely seniors “adopted” her as their own. Savannah will try to work her magic to get this community back on its feet. When the new owner comes into town, she and the residents think their prayers have been answered.

Tristan McMillan arrives in town to check out his investment. Tristan feels he has something to prove to the grandfather that ignored him and his mother all of his life. His original plan was to get in and make a quick sale. But the social director and the residences think he is there so save the community.

Before Tristan can set the record straight, he finds himself falling for Savannah. If Savannah finds out the truth their chance of happiness may be over before it begins.

Whisper’s Edge is a charming tale of southern flavor and a good old romance. Tristan and Savannah’s chemistry is all out sexy and delightfully funny. You can’t help but fall in love with these two. An added dimension is the “older” love story. Kate and Ben’s story is just as sexy and moving as the youngins. I for one would love to see more of these “older” couples having their shot at a happy ending. LuAnn McLane’s story are a romance readers keepers.

Whisper's Edge is a charming, Southern romance that will keep yo

Whisper's Edge is a charming, Southern romance that will keep you amused with its laugh out loud humor! You will be drawn in by the delightful inhabitants of this quaint community and you will be held captivated until you read the very last word!

Savannah Perry works as the social director at Whisper's Edge, a small retirement community located in Cricket Creek, Kentucky. Savannah loves her job and her small home located within the community, but with the poor economy, the business side of Whisper's Edge is suffering. Everyone is relieved when Tristan McMillan takes over the business from his Grandfather and seems to save the day.

When Tristan saves Savannah in what appears to be a drowning, sparks fly between the two. But Savannah has trouble letting anyone get close to her, a result of her childhood spent being shuffled from one home to the next in the foster care system.

Tristan McMillan has big plans for Whisper's Edge. He wishes to sell the property in a get rich quick scheme that will show his unloving grandfather once and for all that he is worth his love and attention.
When the residents of Whisper's Edge hail him as a hero for saving their community, Tristan keeps his plans to himself. When Tristan starts to fall for Savannah he is unsure if he can follow through with his business venture. Will Tristan and Savannah stand a chance at love when Tristan's dishonesty comes out in the open?

Tristan tries hard to be a suave business man, but he is finding out that sometimes there are more important things in life than making money. He maintains an inner struggle as he finds himself in love with Savannah. In the end he faces some hard choices in order for him to find his happy ending.

Savannah is a perky, spunky character who has had a rough life. She Basks in the attention that the elderly residence give her. She will have to let down her guard in order to let Tristan in. When Savannah is faced with the ultimate betrayal, it will take a lot for her to find forgiveness in her heart.

I really loved Whisper's Edge! LuAnn McLane has a unique voice that kept me giggling throughout the story. Whisper's Edge is like getting two romances in one, as there is an older couple whose love affair plays out within the pages of the book. The subplot really adds to the the story and turns a splendid book into a real work of art. You can't go wrong with this one, that's for sure!
