Over one hundred informative and essential "Hiker Tips" have been infused for hiker assistance and benefit.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Bill Schuette (Trail name: Mountain Slayer) was born in the small hamlet of North Star, Ohio, and caught the hiking bug while on a vacation with his family in the Shenandoah National Park.

Following a thirty-year career in education, Bill retired and succumbed to "White Blaze Fever" as he fulfilled his long time dream of thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail. Bill completed his 2,167 mile thru-hike of the trail on August 28, 2000.

Nook version leaves something to be desired

At first I was really excited about reafing this book on my new Nook (it was my first purchase) but as someone has already pointed out the digitized version is out of order and the font is very small and unchangable for some portions. The actual book is excellent and I highly recommend it!

Don't buy this as a nook book

DON'T buy this as a nook book. The book is incorrectly digitized. The font changes with no way to correct it, it is out of order and impossible to read. Still waiting for B&N to do something about it. What I was able to read of the book was good. B&N, or whomever digitized it, has done Mr. Schuette a disfavor in messing it up.

Excellent read - terrible job digitalizing

This is a great account of Bill Schuette's thru hike. I appreciated the bare bones journal presentation along with Schuette's tips for hikers. A terrible job of digitalizing this book nearly steals the joy of it. Chapter 4 appears after chapter 5 which leads you to read about the Delaware Water Gap and New York AFTER you read about summiting Mt. Katahdin. Talk about a flip flop! The font also does some oddly random changing throughout the book. Regardless, it is worth the read.

    A must read

A very informative book about daily activities along the trail. If you like reading about the facts and not how someone feels or their opinions this is the book for you. Along with the feeling that you are on the trail with 'Mountain Slayer', Bill offers tips and lessons that he had learned along the way. I've read many different books on the A.T. this is the one I enjoyed the most.

YOU'LL GET THE APPALACHIAN TRAIL FEVER AFTER READING 'WHITE BLAZE FEVER'

AN EXCELLENT BOOK WHETHER YOU'RE A 'WANNA BE' HIKER OR AN EXPERIENCED 'BEEN THERE DONE THAT' HIKER. A VERY INFORMATIVE AND EXTREMELY WELL WRITTEN BOOK WHICH KEPT MY INTEREST FOR BILL'S ENTIRE 2167 MILE HIKE. AN ASPIRING HIKER WOULD ONLY NEED TO READ THIS ONE BOOK AND HE/SHE WOULD BE READY TO HIT THE TRAIL! THE REASON I ORIGINALLY SELECTED THIS BOOK WAS THAT MY SON WAS ONE OF THE THRU HIKER'S THAT BILL MET ON THE TRAIL. MY SON ALSO WALKED THE ENTIRE 2167 MILE TRAIL AND THIS BOOK HELPED ME BETTER APPRECIATE ALL THE OBSTACLES THAT HE HAD TO OVERCOME IN ORDER TO WALK THE APPLACHIAN TRAIL. I AM SURE GLAD THAT MY SON RECOMMENDED THIS BOOK AS IT WAS ONE OF THE MOST INTERESTING AND INFORMATIVE REAL LIFE ADVENTURE BOOKS THAT I HAVE EVER READ. I HOPE BILL DECIDES TO GO HIKING AGAIN REAL SOON SO THAT I CAN LOOK FORWARD TO ANOTHER ADVENTURE WITH HIM. GREAT BOOK!
