Overview

Bentley Loft Classics proudly presents book #11 or White Fang by Jack London:

White Fang is a novel by American author Jack London. First serialized in Outing magazine, it was published in 1906. The story takes place in Yukon Territory, Canada, during the Klondike Gold Rush at the end of the 19th-century, and details a wild wolfdog's journey to domestication. White Fang is a companion novel (and a thematic mirror) to London's best-known work, The Call of the Wild, which concerns a kidnapped, domesticated dog turning into a wild animal.

Much of the novel is written from the view-point of his canine character, enabling London to explore how animals view their world and how they view humans. White Fang examines the violent world of wild animals and the equally violent world of humans. The book also explores complex themes including morality and redemption.

Meet the Author

John Griffith "Jack" London (born John Griffith Chaney, January 12, 1876 – November 22, 1916) was an American author, journalist, and social activist. He was a pioneer in the then-burgeoning world of commercial magazine fiction and was one of the first fiction writers to obtain worldwide celebrity and a large fortune from his fiction alone. He is best remembered as the author of Call of the Wild and White Fang, both set in the Klondike Gold Rush, as well as the short stories "To Build a Fire", "An Odyssey of the North", and "Love of Life".[citation needed] He also wrote of the South Pacific in such stories as "The Pearls of Parlay" and "The Heathen", and of the San Francisco Bay area in The Sea Wolf.

London was a passionate advocate of unionization, socialism, and the rights of workers and wrote several powerful works dealing with these topics such as his dystopian novel, The Iron Heel and his non-fiction exposé, The People of the Abyss.

White fang as it may be slow at the beginning, in my opinion because of the first two people you meet Bob and Henry, the book picks up and as you turn the pages I believe that this book is a example of the true talent Jack London had in creating a grip full and surprisingly human story that is true to the 20th centrey and how diffrent owners treated their dogs. Just the very aspect of it not even being mainly about a human surprises me because of how much you can relate to White fang and the people she meets as well how the people change the way White fang act. I think you can relate to this because we all have aspects of this in their attitude and have eather been on the offenceive or defenceive side of those attitudes, exscuding the act of kindness that some inhabit as a way of life. once i finished this book i didnt have a empty feeling that i ushally have with books like this. i learned from reading this book that no matter what kind of people you meet in this world, to never give up on them because there will always be somwone out there who isnt going to be cruel and make fun of you because you diffrent, and i belive that this book shows a great example of that and has a great moral snuck in as well.
