I remember reading the original NEW YORK TIMES review of WHITE GIRLS in which it was compared with WINESBURG, OHIO. The comparison is justified. The book is a small masterpiece. It's about race and family and growing up and forgiveness and missed connections. And the final scene between the teenage girl, Loretta, and her boyfriend, meeting again, left me in tears. I loved this book. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.

I found the book overall bland, and full of stereotypical when the writer addresses the people of color in her book. Those characters appeared unreal and a product of the writer's incorrect perception of black people. As a person of color, I could not relate to those people, and I doubt if anyone of color could. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
