Barnes & Noble - Dave Gil de Rubio
Handily dispensing with any thoughts of a sophomore jinx, Natalie Imbruglia follows up her chart-topping debut, Left of the Middle -- which included the hit "Torn" -- with White Lilies Island, a dozen pop gems bathed in a sheen of loops and infectious hooks. Like her American peers Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple, the 20-something Aussie finds her inspiration in the age-old intricacies of love and loss. When she's not sifting through the fallout of a disintegrated relationship the ethereal beauty of "Goodbye" or lying in her bed marveling over a newfound one the playful, "Big Yellow Taxi"-flavored "Satellite", the former soap star loses herself in a labyrinth of ...

Like her American peers Alanis Morissette and Fiona Apple, the 20-something Aussie finds her inspiration in the age-old intricacies of love and loss. When she's not sifting through the fallout of a disintegrated relationship the ethereal beauty of "Goodbye" or lying in her bed marveling over a newfound one the playful, "Big Yellow Taxi"-flavored "Satellite", the former soap star loses herself in a labyrinth of sensuality the electronica-flavored "Beauty on the Fire". Imbruglia also manages to mix in a number of darker, acoustic guitar-driven moments, including the confessional "Talk in Tongues" "Do you know where I've been/walls are caving in" and the equally captivating "Butterflies" "Sickened by the wanting/and drowning from the need". With its mix of more sophisticated songwriting, sweet singing, and alterna-rock flourishes, White Lilies Island proves that Natalie Imbruglia is one flower from Down Under that won't be wilting any time soon.
All Music Guide - MacKenzie Wilson
Natalie Imbruglia was an instant charm with her 1998 debut single, Torn, and expectations for a follow-up to Left of the Middle were practically immediate. Imbruglia wasn't quick to rush, however. Instead of investing in the quick pop sound she made popular on her first album, she took her time in redefining herself as a songwriter with substance. Four years after becoming an international star, Imbruglia emerged with her finest work to date with White Lilies Island. It's a record that breathes something pure, and one can sense that she has complete control, lyrically and musically. Her spiritual and emotional connection remains the same, and White Lilies Island is her reflection of the reinvention. "Wrong Impression" is sweet with its twangy guitar riffs, and Imbruglia's softness is deceiving. She's quite dark, and challenges typical notions of love and acceptance. "Beauty on the Fire" and the heavy romance of "Do You Love" continue the fight. "That Day" and "Sunlight" are strikingly edgy, and Imbruglia's simplicity and energy are intoxicating. She couldn't have rushed this album. Imbruglia has made a brilliant pop record -- contemporary, yet timeless. White Lilies Island would have suffered without Natalie Imbruglia's perfectionism, and it would have lost sight of the elegance it so perfectly exudes.

    Outstanding!

The new sophomore album of australian singer, Natalie Imburglia, shows the artistic developement of the singer(without forgeting the oh-so-famous hit of 1998,"Torn"). It is worth it to buy the album if you are a fan of light-rock and some alternative. It is really great. Welcome back Natalie, oxox.

Amazing CD-No Other CD Can Be Compared to the Perfection of This Album!

This is such a wonderfully-crafted, eclectic, and underappreciated album by an artist no one seems to want to acknowledge anymore. People are so foolish! Natalie is a brilliant singer/songwriter, and this album is light years beyond the already great LEFT OF THE MIDDLE from 1998. If she can produce something better than this album for her third outing, I don't care if she takes until she's 70!

This follow up album to Left of the Middle was definitely worth the wait. The sound is more mature and grown up. I would recommend this album to everyone, it is a great addition to any CD collection. A great album from a very tallented artist. Thank you Natalie!!!

    It was worth the wait

Natalie Imbruglia has grown up! Her amazing new album shows that she's here to stay, it's a solid piece of work and never gets tiring. It is exactly whatthe record label and fans wanted a follow up to Left Of the Middle that would live up or surpass the excellent debut. Nat's voice is angelicas always you can't pull away from it, the songs are a great varity. it opens with the alternative That Day, and goes into acoustics like Satellite and talk in Tongues, and rock tunes such as Do You Love and Sunlight. Natalie has out done herself and the fans are pleased as a Nat fan that everyone knows i think I can safely say, chill out girl and enjoy the feed back. Nat groupie rdogg420

    Well worth the wait!!!!

Being a huge Natalie Imbruglia fan since the single Torn this has been a long wait but well worth it. If you loved the first album you will love this. Natalie sounds a little more grown up in this album. Hopefully she will have much success. Get the album!!!!

    She's Back!

I've been agonizing for years whether Natalie would come out with another CD, and was ESTATIC when I first heard the news she was. Then, of course, I was a lil scared (what if it sucked). Thankfully, my fears were bashed away. ''White Lilies Island'' is an incredible sophmore album, and- I must say it, though I'm a huge fan- even better than the first. ''Sunlight'' and ''Goodbye'' are a couple favs, as well as the radio hit ''Wrong Impression''. This album is a must hear, must love, must HAVE!

What a beautiful follow-up to ''Left of the Middle''!!!

Anyone who fell in love with Natalie Imbruglia when she first blew people away with her debut ''Left of the Middle'' needs this album. With songs that make you ache just for hearing them (Talk In Tongues) and others that you catch yourself humming absentmindedly days later (Sunlight) this CD is just as good as her first, and much better than what most female pop singers are producing today. It's my newest favorite.

I don't know what to say. Just the best.

I wait for this album so long, but i'm happy. Music is perfect, songs are amazing. And Nat voise... oh, what a voise... I'm ready to wait for an new songs. And i'm sure that new songs will be even better. But now is one song - ''Satelite'' THE BEST.

    Natalie has Grown up

Natalie's last production White Lilies Island is an exelent album, she shows that she has grown up as a writer, as a singer and as a whole artist, in the album, she puts 12 new songs, with a new air, a better sound and a better way to see things.
