Editorial Reviews

Library Journal

This stunning book from a new imprint is a photographic tribute to winter and the wildlife native to cold, wet, and hostile environments. French wildlife photographer Munier is known for his work in the field of animal photography and especially enjoys photographing natural life in severe conditions. He writes that he is inspired by the conditions of fog and light, and that is reflected in these landscapes. There is a surprising amount of color in these 100 photos (which are primarily white), and a variety of textures are visible. The photos were taken in the mountains of France and in areas in the Arctic Circle, Canada, and the Japanese island of Hokkaido. Many feature wildlife, especially birds native to the regions. Journalist Ganousse provides an essay at the beginning of the volume, while several pages of text at the end offer information about the various species pictured. The book will be attractive for those with an interest in photography or the geographic regions represented, but its value for libraries is somewhat limited, as it is not intended as an informational resource.
