White Water Sports

by Deb Pinniger

It's hard to match the thrill of being out on the open water, navigating rapids and trying to keep from falling out of your raft or boat. Fans of whitewater sports love the combination of hard exercise and the chance to be out in nature, whether they are navigating their own sea kayak or fighting rapids on a raft with a group of friends.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Greg M. Romaneck
In this illustrated introduction to whitewater sports, Deb Pinniger, a world class kayaker, presents helpful tips for youngsters interested in this action packed activity. As Pinniger points out in this guidebook, whitewater kayaking involves both great risk and great return. Whitewater kayakers can participate in excursions into waterways graded by difficulty, from easy to extreme. In this introductory work, readers with an interest in this sport will encounter safety tips, gear requirements, potential excursion sites, technical aspects, and real life tales of whitewater kayakers. Throughout the book, an emphasis on safety rings out from its pages. As such, Pinniger points out that whitewater kayaking can be an extremely rewarding and risky sport. If there is a weakness to this publication, it lies in the tendency to try to cram as many text boxes or information points onto each page. This approach leads to some congestion of thought that may confuse readers. This guidebook will serve its readers well as an introduction to a sport that features thrills and dangers on waterways that the vast majority of people would never consider entering.
