Library Journal - Library Journal
Award-winning quilter McTavish has a passion for wholecloth quilts, which are traditionally made from a single piece of fabric usually white adorned with elaborate quilting patterns and sometimes combined with trapunto, a type of padding that adds dimension. She presents a gallery of 60 wholecloth quilts photographed so that readers can see the whole quilt and details of the quilting and trapunto work; commentaries by the artist and the author accompany each. Instructional chapters cover supplies, using architectural details as inspiration for wholecloth quilting designs, adding trapunto to wholecloth quilts, working with pieced or appliqu d quilts, and adding shadow and color trapunto to wholecloth quilts. This beautiful coffee-table book is highly recommended for large public libraries. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

Karen McTavishe's extrordinary talent is shown from cover to cover of her book. She has has turned traditional into remarkable and has truly shown that machine quilting is an art of only the finest talent. She has began a new frontier in machine quilting that is quite easily mistaken for hand quilting. She should never be critisized for her beautiful 'machine quiltig' for it takes a keen eye and a great love for the art of quilting to so beautifully master the work that she has done. BRAVO Karen McTavish! I hope you will continue sharing your talent with us! AJS

There aren't words to describe the talent this author has for turning a simple piece of cloth into a stunning masterpiece. Further, her ability to teach others is simply unsurpassed! This book is honest, thorough and gorgeous. It's hard to put down, and you'll see something new each time you pick it up! A must-have for the wholecloth enthusiast, but a distinct pleasure for anyone who has the chance to look at it.
