Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
There are plenty of people kids should know who are part of their lives. In this board book with large flaps, Elmo and Grover take kids through their town. We meet a crossing guard who is posted on a busy street to help those going to a dog show. There is a mail carrier, newspaper vendor, and the sanitation workers who remove trash. Oops-they accidentally picked up Cookie Monster's can! The street is filled with maintenance workers repairing a water pipe leading to the school and when they are done, a road crew must repair the big hole in the street. Signs on each spread mention the dog show scheduled for 3 pm in the park and once there Elmo and Grover introduce readers to the friendly park rangers. Once at the dog show readers meet a local news photographer who is covering the scene. It is a busy book with a lot of text, but children and adults working together can glean quite a bit of information from it. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
