Overview

This charity CD to benefit the charity Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS may be considered a single in the sense that it has only two tracks, even if their combined time is 27 minutes. Michael Feinstein gets top billing as the singer of the song "Who Are These Strangers?," veteran songwriter Ervin Drake's socially conscious composition that calls for tolerance and acceptance of homosexuals and then proceeds to enumerate the artistic contributions of various people known or thought to have been gay. Feinstein sings this piece of agitprop with his usual sincerity. One of the historical figures named in the lyric is Tchaikovsky, which provides the rationale for the disc's second track, a performance of the composer's "Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor" by the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra and pianist Elisso Bolkvadze, conducted by Jansug Kakhidze.
