    A completist's dream, a newbie's nightmare

This is by far the most thorough and factual rock biography ever written. The author wisely avoids hyperbole--not an easy task when profiling a musician and songwriter regarded as a living legend by no less than three generations--but the other side of the coin is that the book is frequently a dry read. For a devotee this tome is indispensible; for a casual fan or someone new to Pete's work and life looking to gain some insight, expect to get lost and/or bored. Refer first to the many Townshend interviews available online, then later to this otherwise great book.

dull accounting of a fascinating man

this is an extremely long book, and please know that as an ebook, the publisher does not allow the photos which was a major dissapointment because when i recently saw the book in a bookstore the pictures were numerous and awesome. the author focuses too much on what songs were played on what tour. would have liked more on the important relationships in his life, not tour facts.
