Overview

KC Corcoran always watches the news. So it’s no surprise that she notices right away when the president starts acting funny on TV. He’s stiff and awkward. He’s even signing papers with the wrong hand. There’s only one explanation–the president has been cloned! And it’s up to KC and her best friend, Marshall, to save him.

KC discovers that the President of the United States has been replaced by a clone and sets out with her friend Marshall on a dangerous mission to set things right.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
KC Corcoran and Marshall Li are best friends, live in the same building in Washington D.C. and are in fifth grade. Both KC and Marshall are given assignments to write reports about Presidents. KC gets the current President, Zachary Thorton, and Marshall gets President Hoover. KC is also a news buff and keeps up to date with current issues, one of which is the President saying no to human cloning. She begins to research different facts about the President and discovers that he is left-handed, along with a couple of other little known tidbits of information. She sees a news clip on television and notices that the President is writing with his right hand, then comes to conclusion that he has been cloned. KC decides she needs to take action with Marshall's help. Together, they create a plan to help save the President by using Marshall's beloved spiders to scare away all of the tourists and hide out in the White House until no one is around. They find the President and discover he really has been cloned and in the end, they save him and are awarded for bravery. Overall, this is a creative and imaginative mystery, yet children need to keep the story in perspective with current events on cloning. This Mile 5chapter book is part of the series "Road to Reading" 2nd and 3rd grade level reading. 2001, Golden Books, $4.99 and $3.99. Ages 6 to 8. Reviewer:Christy Oestriech

    A GREAT BOOK!!!

This is a good book for someone who likes presidents. KC is doing a school report and she picked President Thornton. Marshall picked Herbert Hoover. KC went home and turned on the tv to learn about President Thornton. When she saw him she called Marshall. The president did not look the same he looked like he was a clone. Could that be true? Find the book in your nearest Barnes&Noble and buy it and read the book to find out.

    I Also Recommend:

    Great read!

I purchased this series for my son. We love them! They all give wonderful details about Washington, D.C. buildings and history while telling a good mystery. Great for trying to teach children how to draw conclusions (solve the mystery). Great fun to read together.

What you can learn when you read or study something.

My son loves this book. This book shows children that when they learn or study something they can use thier knowledge from what they have learned to help them know the difference between the clone and the real president.
