Overview

Lift the flaps and learn about animal life in this fresh, fun-filled series for curious preschoolers.

The jungle is warm and steamy. What kind of animal might live there, a snow goose or a sloth? What about a still, cool pond -- could that be home for a howler monkey? Find out why meerkats like dry sunny grasslands (hint: they like to dig holes to hide in) or why clown fish feel right at home in a coral reef. Small flaps and a matching spread at the end make learning about habitats fun.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
In this oversized board book with large pictures and information on the opposing page, kids are encouraged to answer questions by lifting flaps. Reader/listeners will learn about habitats and the types of animals that could be found in them. The left hand page shows a habitat and offers a fact or two. The right hand pages displays four flaps each representing a habitat—blue background and snow, green with swirls, an amoebic looking patterns, etc. The idea is to select the tab that corresponds to the picture and information on the opposing page. The correct answer reveals a creature with the words "It's me! I live here." Followed by the name of whatever the animal is. The other flaps when listed say "Not me!" also followed by an identification of the animal and where it would be found—forest, grassland, ocean, or pond. It really is a wonderful idea and an engaging way to learn. My only criticism is that the flap image does not visually correlate well with the habitat. The ocean, pond, and grassland flaps were not that obvious to this reviewer. The final spread asks reader/listeners to match up habitats for animals based on color. The final flap may bring a smile.
