Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
AGERANGE: Ages 4 to 6.

LazyTown from Nick, Junior is the program that serves as the basis for this level 1 rebus reader in the "Ready-To-Read" series. It is Bessie's birthday and the kids want to surprise her with a beautiful cake. They make one and top it off with frosting and lollipops. Robbie Rotten spies this delicious confection and cannot restrain himself--he steals and eats the cake, then leaves a trail of frosting to implicate Sportacus. Our trusty aviator is able to clear himself and the kids eventually figure out who the culprit is. They then bake another cake for Bessie. The one quibble is that Robbie never gets punished or reprimanded for his bad deed. The cartoon-style illustrations will appeal to fans of the show. The simple sentences and word repetition put this story into the "Dick and Jane" category of early reader, but with a more contemporary flair. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
