Overview

Leonardo da Vinci was a gifted painter, talented musician, and dedicated scientist and inventor, designing flying machines, submarines, and even helicopters.  Yet he had a hard time finishing things, a problem anyone can relate to.  Only thirteen paintings are known to be his; as for the illustrated encyclopedia he intended to create, all that he left were thousands of disorganized notebook pages.  Here is an accessible portrait of a fascinating man who lived at a fascinating time—Italy during the Renaissance.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Mary Bowman-Kruhm
This short book, aimed at upper elementary or older reluctant readers, captures the life of one of the great Renaissance figures. Supplementary material interspersed with da Vinci's story and presented in bold font explains terms (e.g., Renaissance, Michelangelo) relevant to building a reader's background. From the introductory overview of da Vinci's life, the depth and range of his accomplishments in art, science, and engineering are described in easily understood language. Young readers will be able to relate to several failures he experienced when he tried new techniques, and his difficulty finishing projects despite initial enthusiasm. Includes a timeline of da Vinci's life, timeline of the world 1450—1533, and bibliography for readers who want additional information. A wonderful introduction to the world as it existed in the middle ages as well as to a brilliant man whose work almost five hundred years ago anticipated today's flying machines and robots.

I purchased this book for my son who is in 5th grade. He needed to read an autobiography and do a book report on it. I had to order this book from Barnes and Noble as they didnt have it in stock. It took about 2 weeks to come in, i had hoped for a quicker turn around time, but i had no other choice. He still had time to read it. He said it was very informative and allowed him to get all the information he needed for his book report. It was an easy reader, and wasnt too long of a book either. He got an A+ on his report, so i would recommend this book!

Name; Olivia Renado Jillian. Age; Never ask a lady that!!! The audacity!!! Appearance; Olive has dark brown hair that's always up in a messy ponytail. Her eyes are a warm cerulean that seem to shine with a light of their own when she feels exuberant, which isn't often. She has elegant, royal blue Gucci glasses that rest comfortably on the bridge of her nose. Her wardrobe incorporates mostly black, teal, or maroon. Mini-skirts seem to be the bane of her existence, and instead she tends to wear summer dresses or impeccably ecru jeans with some random T-shirt. Persona; She tries to be diplomatic an unbiased, along with fair-minded, intuitive, and intellectual. But that's mainly for you to decide. Likes; Reading anime, the whole of Language Arts class, playing select video games, and people who have immaculate spelling. Dislikes; Heights, excess violence, Physics, and speak of the supernatural. Anything else? Feel free to ask. ~ Olive
