The first book, Footsteps of a Forgotten Soldier, follows David's life from before and during the Civil War. The second book in the series, Who We Are, picks up when David returns from the warfront.

About the Author

Born in Glen Cove, New York in June 1965, Author Francis S. Carl first co-authored the book, Footsteps of a Forgotten Soldier The Life and Times of David Carll in 2015. As a descendant of David Carll, a black Civil War soldier from Oyster Bay, New York, Francis's main focus in research has been the life of his great-great grandfather who was born in 1845. The regiment David Carll belonged to was the 26th United States Colored Regiment, organized on Riker's Island, New York. It has always been a focal point with Francis and his research and how it affected blacks throughout the state. Francis S. Carl has served honorable in the United State Army from 1984 to 1987. Attended Long Island University and Central Texas College. The completion of his second book, Who We Are, was a milestone for him. His book focuses on David Carll's life after returning home from the war and covers 20 years from 1865 to 1885. Francis continues to write and says this story will be in a series of book telling the history of this family who has been able to escape the bond of slavery since 1795.
