    DO NOT BUY IF YOU KNOW HOW TO BAKE - WASTE OF MONEY

    The publisher and the bakery should be ashamed of this disaster of a cookbook. Let's get this straight - I know how to bake and I love my sweets. My fiance bought this for me as a pleasant little surprise, yet the biggest surprise was when I have tried to make the recipes several times and they only resulted in collapsed cupcakes - everytime. I have never had a cupcake collapse. Ever. I tried again-same thing. I called the bakery and they explained that it could be "altitude"--ummm...thanks for passing the buck but we live 2 miles from you--and there ain't no ski slopes in Chicago. They didn't have an alternative explanation. We tried everything and just kept failing. To say I want my money back is an understatement. I want the time wasted, the money spent on all these ingredients, the disappointment--you can start there. Next time Ulysses Press ought to actually try the recipes themselves before publishing a disaster (um, it's called fact checking Ulysses Press). Everyone associated with the book should bow their heads in embarrassment.

    Real problems with this cookbook

    The recipes sound very interesting, but there are some big problems. For one, they don't work! There are bizarre amounts of ingredients (way too much butter or milk or salt or baking soda, depending on the recipe-- generally triple of what would be reasonable). The book is tiny and so is the print. There are scratches through the photos and some of the information. It's supposed to be artistic, I guess, but it makes it hard to see.
