As with PEEKABOO BABY before it, Braun has created a lift-the-flap winner.

Children's Literature - Marilyn Courtot
Hide-and-seek is a popular game with young children. In this lift the flap board book, it is more an exploration of the world that some children may living in. A little boy is curious as to what is behind the gate. Enough of the creature is showing so that kids can make a good guess. Lifting the flap will reveal if the guess was a good one. In one spread the animal hiding is a puppy or some may say dog. The same technique is used to uncover a caterpillar, snail, rabbit, Guiney pig, and a cat. The only change to the pattern appears on the last spread when kids are asked "who's hiding in the playhouse?" The answer is baby. It is an amusing book and offers a multicultural cast of babies trying to find who is hiding. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot

PreS—This simple lift-the-flap board book shows a diverse group of toddlers who look for animals hidden behind flaps. "Who's hiding behind the gate?" A nose and tail peeking out lets children guess what's there. The last spread asks, "Who's hiding in the playhouse?" A hand and part of an ear are visible through the windows. Opening the doors reveals "Baby!" Like any lift-the-flap board book, this one will have a short circulation life, but it will be well loved in the meantime.—Amelia Jenkins, Juneau Public Library, AK
Kirkus Reviews
Cherubic toddlers discover various creatures under flaps in a backyard setting. The text poses simple questions ("Who's hiding behind the gate?"), and readers answer them by opening each gate-, leaf- or flower-pot–shaped flap to find a hiding animal and a one-word caption. The last scene refreshingly breaks this pattern and features a "baby" hiding in the playhouse. One member of a multicultural cast of sitting and cruising toddlers acts as a reader stand-in on each double-page spread. Braun's smoothly colored cartoons are clear, engaging and accessible--ideal for youngsters learning to identify the world. A tell-tale animal body part peeks out from behind the industry-standard–strength flap to give readers a hint as to the hider. The text is appropriately simple, but it also introduces a few vocabulary-building words, such as "watering can" and "hutch." As with Peekaboo Baby (2012) before it, Braun has created a lift-the-flap winner. (Board book. 6 mos.-2)
