Sayers invented a great character in Lord Peter Wimsey. This is his first mystery appearance, and well worth reading. The plotting is solid, and the writing is first rate. I found the use of flashback and first person narration in the scenes related to Wimsey's shell shock really made a comic, eccentric playboy into a fully human being that I cared about deeply. Was this review helpful?
