Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
Whose Feet are These? is part of the "Name that Animal!" series. The book is set up as a guessing game. On one page the author has a picture of an animal's feet and gives clues as to what the animal is. Then, the reader turns the page to learn "whose feet are these?" The text is simple and easy to read; however, the difficulty of guessing the correct animals would make this book frustrating for a young child. For example, one animal is described as "one of the biggest birds in the world" that "cannot fly" with "feet [that] make me a speedy runner." With these clues even a smart first grader would have a hard time coming up with a Cassowary as the answer. If a child gets frustrated easily, then this book would not be very good choice seeing how many of the animals are uncommonly hard to guess—for adults as well as for children—as a result of the vague clues and specific species. 2003 (orig. 1999), Gareth Stevens Publishing,
