Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Rachel Miller
Many animals live in caves and use different types of caves for various activities. Some animals, like cougars, use caves for protection against predators. There are bat caves, sea caves and land caves. Within each there are three zones in which different creatures live and use the cave. Some animals hibernate in caves and some come and go from their caves throughout the day. In the sea caves, the animals may lay eggs and even live their entire lives there. The author introduces the reader to sea creatures they may not have been familiar with in the past. The photographs are clear and precise in relation to the words. The captions for each picture are informational and contain text that is different from the original text. After the glossary of bolded vocabulary, the author recommends more informational books on related topics as well as websites. It would be valuable to have this information when researching. This book would be a real asset to any curriculum dealing with the environment or habitats. This is part of the "Where Animals Live" series. Reviewer: Rachel Miller
