Why Can't I Live Forever?: And Other Not Such Dumb Questions about Life

by Vicki Cobb, Mena Dolobowsky

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal
Gr 3-5Cobb addresses such questions as: What makes a living thing a living thing? What is the smallest living thing? Why are plants green? Why is blood red? How are all living things alike? and How long can we live? These are just the kinds of inquiries curious children pose, and the author gives brief, clear answers and suggests some simple experiments and activities that extend understanding of the principles involved. Dolobowsky's black-and-white line drawings feature four youngsters involved in exploring the key questions (and obviously having fun doing so), and contribute content as well as humor. One strength of this presentation is that Cobb stimulates students to think beyond the realm of this title. Readers of Why Can't I Live Forever? will be asking additional "not such dumb questions about life" and looking for books that further explore these topics.Carolyn Angus, The Claremont Graduate School, CA
