Overview

The original soundtrack (on Elektra) to this Rhino movie features recut versions of the hits by contemporary artists in a shoddy attempt to revise history VH1 style, padded out with new music by various rap and dance artists. So the movie's parent company Rhino (no doubt with a twinge of guilt), issues this companion piece featuring the original songs by the people who made them famous. With this, we get to hear what made Frankie Lymon and his music so special and unique, not some producer's idea of how to make his music "palatable" to a modern audience. In addition to Lymon's original versions of "Why Do Fools Fall In Love," "The ABC's of Love," "Baby, Baby," "Little Bitty Pretty One" and "Goody Goody," the collection also includes "Tutti Frutti" by Little Richard, "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" by the Shirelles, "The Great Pretender" by the Platters, "Try a Little Tenderness" by Otis Redding, a version of "Long Lonely Nights" by Clyde McPhatter (the original was by Lee Andrew and the Hearts), and two versions of "California Dreamin'," one each by the Mamas and the Papas and Bobby Womack.
