Children's Literature - RevaBeth Russell
Like others in this series, "Inside My Body," the two page chapter format makes it easier for young readers. He or she will read that burps are caused by gases in the digestive system. Food groups are explained. Fruits and vegetables contain a fifth of the water you need daily. Umami, the Japanese word for savory is bolded. The bolding alerts the reader that the word and its definition can be found in the glossary if one doesn't know what it means. The glossary in each book is a friendly way for the reader to learn to use a glossary, an important skill in life. Your stomach tosses around food like a "cement mixer." That is only one example of many pieces of descriptive writings found in the book. The photograph accompanying the text of the billions of bacteria living in your digestive system is colored and looks like candy "Tic Tacs". This series would be a great addition to any library or classroom. Part of the "Inside My Body" series. Reviewer: RevaBeth Russell
