Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Nancy Garhan Attebury
A wealth of information regarding camouflage is found in this book from the "Why in the World" series. Tigers on the bright book cover attract readers right away, and camouflage is explained in a clear definition inside the book. This user-friendly book is geared to students reading at below level because of its large print, few sentences per page, and short sidebar questions. The format is good for students conducting research. In keeping with the format of other books in this series, the second page stresses scientific inquiry. Excellent photo examples show how camouflage works. Different creatures lurk in the grass, change colors, and imitate objects. Owls, deer, snowshoe rabbits, polar bears, grasshoppers, and underwater creatures are just a few examples. Glossary words are highlighted and clearly explained. An index and sources for more information also make up end matter. Add this to classrooms encouraging students to learn how to do research. It will be a popular choice.
