I loved this book! It is interesting, informative, and inspiring. Try it if you know of anyone who is in an unhappy marriage.
I'm so happy I read this wonderful book because it helped me understand and validate what a woman goes through when in an abusive relationship. It is a terrific book that is totally unlike any other books I have read on the subject of abuse. It's a woman's diary and it will totally grab you. I highly recommend it. MAP
I read this book because a friend told me she was married to an abusive man and I didn't understand how hard it was for her. Why Doesn't She Just Leave? gave me insights into and an understanding of what happens when women are frightened of their husbands. I cared more and more for Lisa as I read her journal and wanted so much for her to change her life. Now I hope I can help my friend change hers by reading this book and seeing that, if Lisa can do it, so can she! I highly encourage everyone to read "Why Doesn't She Just Leave?"
I found this book gripping! As I read it, I found myself rooting for Lisa to get out of the horrible situation she was trapped in. The more I read, the more I understood why someone would stay in an abusive relationship. Lisa had her self-esteem knocked down so low, that she believed that she wouldn't be able to survive without Mike, and she believed that he loved her. By the time I finished the book, I really understood, sad as it is, the title question, "Why Doesn't She Just Leave?" I believe that having read this book, I will be a better, more understanding husband to my wife. I felt tremendous relief learning that Lisa was finally able to get out and create a new, happier life with her two children. It was almost as if a huge burden had been lifted from MY shoulders! I can only hope that Lisa is living a happy, healthy, carefree life today.
This book did not answer, at least for me, the question possed in the title. It only made me wonder more intensily. It does help the reader understand the hell that life in that situation is but did not show how to help someone out of it.
