Very good book detailing the life of BJ Penn, gives a human perspective to the man most of us only see via UFC and the media. Condidering the one-dimensional view they (UFC/media) present of Penn, this book is good for anyone wanting to learn more about the man and the sport. I found myself reading the book at every opportunity because it was so interesting.

This was the first time that I have read a book by a BJJ or MMA fighter where they provided a detailed look into how they achieved greatness. Most of the books I have bought (mostly instructionals) offer a few pages in the front with a quick bio on the fighter. BJ Penn discusses his initial inspiration to become a fighter, his childhood days and scraps and his BJJ beginnings all the way until his world championship. Then he gives an in-depth look into his early MMA days all the way until the present. I read this book in two days on my iphone and I don't like reading on it because of the small screen. Sometimes you feel as if you are right there along with Penn as he describes some of the events of his life. It also gives you unexpected insights into the BJJ and MMA universe. Book is difficult to put down once you start reading. I started on a plane ride to Phoenix from Los Angeles and on the return flight back. Finished the book that night before bed. BJ tells it like it is and speaks about his life pertaining to why he is who he is today. BJ does not pull any punches, not that he ever has. If you are a combat sports fan, pick this one up. You will not be dissapointed!
