Why Intelligent People Are Overweight explores and answers the question why those of us who know better—who know the right foods to eat and that exercise is beneficial—are still overweight. Oprah Winfrey is a great example. Here is someone who is very intelligent, very successful and has the best resources in the world available to her, yet she still struggles in the area of her weight. You and I are intelligent as well. We know which foods are healthy and that exercise is beneficial. Yet, we still choose to eat unhealthy food and choose not to exercise.

In this groundbreaking book, food addiction expert Hedley Turk offers clear and concise steps on how to conquer our food addictions and cravings, how to motivate ourselves to exercise and enjoy it, and how to permanently lose weight.

Great book, easy to read, like you're hearing a conversation. The way it's written it's like having the author right there with you telling you how it really is - like my own personal coach. If you can't handle the truth, don't read it, or actually...you should read it!

"Why Intelligent People Are Overweight" reads like a pep talk from a concerned friend. Over and over again Hedley Turk makes the point that if you are overweight you are going to die sooner than later. While this is not pleasant to think about it might shock you into reality.

This book has been a godsend. First of all, I finally feel connected to my body. It's like all this time I didn't see myself as I really was. I was kind of kidding myself. I always thought of myself as chubby, when in fact I was actually fat. Just that realization by itself has motivated me tremendously. I've also started to think about how my weight has been holding me back from doing the things that I've always wanted to do.

Meet the Author

I used to be a personal trainer. I also used to have a food addiction. My addiction was to chocolate doughnuts. These doughnuts were chocolate on the inside, chocolate on the outside and sprinkled all over with sugar. I had this addiction for years.

Once a week I would get a craving, and as soon as the craving hit, I would purchase a box of doughnuts. When I returned home I would devour the entire box, eight doughnuts, in one sitting. My cravings increased, and what began as a once-a-week treat grew to where I was eating more doughnuts than any one human being should.

I eventually realized I had a problem—I couldn't control my cravings. Rather than being in control of my own behavior, a food was now in control. This was especially troubling because I used to be a personal trainer.

After successfully overcoming my food addiction I realized the process I went through could help others who are struggling with their own food and weight issues. The results of my effort, and hopefully the long overdue answers for many, are included in Why Intelligent People Are Overweight.

Oh, and one more thing—I haven't had a box of doughnuts since.
