    A good beginning book

As the blurb says, this is a "good beginning book." In clear, simple English--not psychobabble--it explains the experience of child sexual abuse, its effects on victims, and ways that former victims can change their lives for the better. It also contains stories told by victims about their abuse, and a guide to further information and help. The section on how to select a therapist is especially helpful, for people going that route. The book is easy to read. Its everyday language and basic explanations may seem overly simplified to some readers, but this is not really a problem if a "beginning book" is what you want. People who have already done a lot of reading in the field will find no "sophisticated" approaches here--just good, practical suggestions for ways to feel better. The book addresses male as well as female victims and both "conservatives" and "liberals" should find it useful. The informal writing style helps readers connect with the author. She is clearly knowledgeable about child sexual abuse and inspires confidence not only in her guidance but in the reader's ability to heal. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to start learning about recovery from child sexual abuse.

A Very Useful Book, A Great Beginning

This book packs a lot of information into just 124 pages. It is an excellent introduction to the whole subject of child sexual abuse and answers a lot of basic questions. Victims share their experiences of abuse in telling how they were abused, by whom, and in what circumstances. For some, the abuse was a single incident and for some the abuse went on for years. In the most important part of the book the author, who is a psychologist, suggest ways that former victim can begin working on specific problems (like fear, anger, and lack of trust) so they can make their own lives better.

I enjoyed reading this and furthering my education in the topic

I enjoyed reading this and furthering my education in the topic of child abuse. I know people whom have been abused and this helps me to help them if they are in need of a shoulder to lean on. I like how the authour included resources at the end of the book and how there was so much in there for the victim to be informed on. The details in this novel were very informative, full of advise, and helpful. I recommend this book to anyone, because that way people are more informed about the affects of child abuse and how to further help someone in need. I also was able to find some quotes that help me as an individual, even though I'm not a victim. I could see this being really helpful for those whom are victims and I hope that they find refuge in this book and are able to seek the proper help they need. I am also currently reading a book that deals with girls being sold on the black market and them being abused in many ways and reading this book helped me piece together the main woman's feelings and understand her better as a person and how see deals with her past abuse by her brother. I would like to thanks Lynn Daugherty for writing this book and other books about child abuse, because it's courageous people like her that have helped people that have suffered.

    Highly Recommend!!

This book is an excellent resource for anyone who has had or is having any experience at all with sexual abuse. If you are a victim yourself the author gives you excellent advice on how to begin the healing process. If you are someone who knows or cares about a victim this is an wonderful book to read to help you understand what your loved one is going through and how you can be there for them. I am an adult survivor of childhood abuse and I repressed my memories until just the past couple of years. The author explains how sometimes that can happen and how it can affect a person. I felt like she had been there, watching me grow up - or had peeked inside my head! I still struggle with self-esteem issues and have battled depression and suicidal thoughts most of my life. The author talks about all that in her book. I have had victory over all of that, thankfully! I did seek help from a counsellor and professional help is always a good idea.

If sexual abuse is a part of your life in any way, either directly in indirectly, I highly recommend you get this book! It will answer many questions you have and some that you may not have even thought of yet! At the end of the book the Dr. Lynn Daugherty lists many other resources to seek more information.
