Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
In a question-and-answer format, Farrell ( The Myth of Male Power , Audio Reviews, LJ 10/1/93) explains life from a man's perspective. If you've wondered why men find it hard to commit, why they provide solutions instead of empathy, why they can't just stop and ask directions, or why they spend so much time at work, this audiobook is for you. Farrell addresses the other side of sexism, asking why women, if they want equality, expect men to pick up the check at dinner. He explains the male experience of being a ``success object'' as well as explaining why men make women into ``sex objects'' to lessen the pain of rejection. The listener learns what men talk about with the ``guys'' and why vulnerability is so difficult for men to express. Farrell initiates a dialog that will contribute to an understanding and maybe even a truce between the sexes. Recommended for all contemporary collections.-- Nancy Paul, Brandon P.L., Wis.

    Thought provoking

It is obvious that the author has put a lot of thought into this book. It leaves the reader with a lot to ponder.

Warren Farrell speaks for millions of silent, suffering men

This book is a must read for anyone in a serious rlationship, or who is considering a serious relationship with the opposite sex. Dr. Farrell thoughtfully articulates the incredibly different ways that men and women approach love and relationships. Reading this and some of Dr. Farrell's other books have opened my eyes to how media, culture, and society shape the way we treat individuals. They have shed light on how both men and women have placed men into a category of 'the disposable sex.' If nothing else, it articulates why men and women react very differently to similar situations, and what we need to do as a society to empower both men and women in relationships. When I read this book, sometimes I have to set it aside because it makes me angry and sad. Dr. Farrell exposes reverse discrimination at every level of society, and to see this discrimination (and examples of discrimination published in prominent studies and articles) carefully documented and footnoted provides an authenticity to theories that I've always felt but never have been put into words. He has empowered me as both a man and as a member of society. Everyone should have to read this book. It is liberating to know that there are millions of other men in the world that have many of the same ideas about society that I have. Thank you, Warren.
