Celebrating this classic's twentieth year in print, "Why Was I Adopted?" provides parents with a tool for helping their child understand the unique circumstances of their "birth" into an adoptive family.

Offering honest, clear explanations for some of the possible issues that an adopted child may face growing up, this book answers such questions as - How do adopted children deal with the fact that they may look nothing like their parents or siblings? What if they were adopted from another country? - Why did the birth parents give up the child? - How did the adoptive parents find the child? - Does being adopted mean the child is any better or worse than other children? - What if one day the child wants to know his or her birth parents?

"Why Was I Adopted?" explains away much of the initial confusion, instills a feeling of uniqueness in an adopted child, and encourages open lines of communication with parents.

    A reviewer

My parents gave my sister and I this book when we were old enough to read it. We were both adopted and we loved the illustrations and the humor. We know what a blessing it was that we were adopted and I still read this book.

    Grew up on this book...

I am a 30 year old adoptee. I grew up reading this book(over and over). My brother and I knew what was going to be on the next page. What I remember most are the illustrations. They were vivid and silly. I loved this book! I am looking for books about adoption now to read to my own children, as my husband & I are looking into adoption. This book will be on my list!

Every Adopted child needs this book.

I myself recieved this book in 1983 from a friend of the family, my caseworker. I was adopted at the age of 6 weeks. I remember being a little girl and reading the book to myself. This book made me feel special and understand why I was adopted. Awesome book and would be encouragement to any child who is adopted. I still have the book, I am now 23 and married. I plan on buying another copy for the little boy my parents are adopting. I hope you are enticed to buy for your own adopted child or maybe of someone you know.

The Perfect Book for our family

We adopted 4 children at ages 3,5,6 and 15. I searched for a book that we can read together and most books I found were about the adoption of infants. This book covers it all but doesn't really say 'older children.' My kids love this book because it talks about 'THEM' and our family.

    This book tells it all

I have searched for an adoption book with some humor to it. All the books I find are so serious. This book explains and touches on so many situations and issues. It encourages questions and answers a lot of difficult ones along the way. It is a wonderful book for adopted children as well as their cousins and family members.
