Excerpt from Chapter 1

"Can you believe this absolute nonsense? I"m being sued!" Stasi stormed into Blast from the Past with the force of a Category 5 hurricane. She held up a sheaf of papers that looked suspiciously like ancient papyrus with lines of gilded lettering streaming across it. The large, embossed seal stamped at the bottom made it official. "And in Wizards" Court, no less!"

"Uh, Stasi, love, I have customers." Blair"s gaze darted to the four people prowling her shop, who were now looking at Stasi with fascination. Blair"s shop specialized in authentic retro items, from a 1940s Madame Alexander doll to a 1950s chrome table and tie-dyed clothing from the 1960s. It was easy for Blair to keep a varied inventory when her sister witches tended to clean out their closets of personal treasures every so often and were happy to have Blair sell them on consignment.

She quickly held up her hands. "Freeze frame, make it so!" She moved swiftly toward one woman who had frozen in the process of returning a tall Warner Bros. Roadrunner glass to the shelf, grabbing the glass just as it slipped from the woman"s fingers. She placed it carefully among the other glasses and turned to Stasi.

Stasi"s mid-length sunny brown hair flared around her with a life of its own as she stomped to the rear of the shop. She pulled herself up to sit on the waist-high counter and tossed the papyrus down on the polished surface. "This is insane," she snarled, staring at the parchment so hard Blair was amazed it didn"t burst into flames. "Hic!" A perfectly shaped iridescent bubble escaped her lips.

Blair stared at her best friend in amazement. Anastasia Romanov was known for her sweet, romantic temperament and calm, almost placid, demeanor. Right now she looked ready to go off into a major witchy hissy fit, as evidenced by those angry bubbles. This was not the Stasi she"d known for more than seven hundred years! Stasi hiccupped and two more bubbles floated into the room. "Now isn"t the time to get the hiccups! Take a breath," Blair ordered, running a hand through her dark auburn curls. "And tell me what is going on. Slowly!"

Stasi closed her eyes, hiccupped again (three bubbles this time), and pulled in a deep breath, then another. When she opened them, she looked a bit calmer. And when she hiccupped again, only one tiny bubble slipped out. Blair relaxed a little.

"Carrie Anderson is suing me for alienation of affection. She"s claiming it"s my fault her rotten husband didn"t come back." Dark purple sparks shot out over her head.

"Stasi, you need to calm down!" Blair said firmly. She glanced at the front door and promptly set a stay out spell on it. The last thing she needed was someone walking in to find customers playing Statue and Stasi shooting off magickal sparks. "Everyone knows Carrie"s totally delusional about things." Blair glanced at the papyrus. "Why would she sue you for alienation of affection?"

Stasi"s golden brown eyes glittered with unshed tears that had more to do with fury than sorrow. "She"s claiming that I did something to the sachet I tucked into her package that made sure her cheating, lowerthan- scum husband wouldn"t return to her and that by giving her a charm that harmed her marriage I interfered in mortal affairs. The ‘cheating and lower-than-scum" description is mine. She"s claiming he"s the love of her life and she just knows he would have come back to her if I hadn"t done something horrible to make sure he wouldn"t return. He"s, what, her fourth husband? It"s a well-known fact that every man she"s been with has been driven to cheat on her! And I"ve never made a claim that the sachets I put in the bags do anything. I make it sound like a joke that they inspire romance, and the customers love it. And it"s not as though I can do much more than that, anyway. If I did, Cupid would be on my butt faster than a flea."

"Oh yeah, he"s real protective of his job and doesn"t like anyone interfering in his field," Blair agreed.

"Like most of the people in town, Carrie knows I"m a witch and she thinks my romance sachet should have brought Kevin back to her." Stasi crossed her arms in front of her chest, a full pout on her lips. "So now she"s mad at me and wants vengeance. To top it off, she somehow persuaded a top wizard lawyer to file suit against me in Wizards" Court!"

"It can"t be done. It has to be prosecuted in Witches" Court." Blair wasn"t an attorney, but over the centuries she"d learned more than she liked about witch law.

Stasi shook her head. "Obviously it can, if that bottom-feeding wizard lawyer took the case and filed it. It would be bad enough if she"d hired that one that"s on the late night paranormal channel. Herve Rovenal will take any case to defend innocent mortals from the ones who prey on them. But she hired Trevor Barnes!" Her lip curled as she glared at the parchment again. This time a thin wisp of smoke curled up from its surface but was quickly snuffed out—not by Stasi, but by the parchment itself.

"We can"t discuss it here," Blair said. She checked the black Kit-Kat clock hanging on the wall. "It"s almost closing time anyway. I"ll herd these people out once I"ve unfrozen them and we"ll see what"s going on. Okay?"

Stasi nodded. "They"ll have another thing coming if they think I"ll put up with this insanity," she muttered, hopping off the counter. "It"s not my fault that Carrie"s husband left her! Kevin used to be a nice guy, and she treated him like dirt. I"ll make her sorry she started this." She marched to the door, which opened and closed behind her without her hand touching it or the brass bell hanging over it making a sound.

Blair quickly unfroze her customers, made a sale to a bewildered woman, and ushered the rest out before they realized what was happening.

"Girlfriend"s got a problem," Felix, the black Kit-Kat clock Blair had owned since the 1930s, announced from his spot high up on the wall. His large eyes swept from side to side as his tail swung back and forth above a sign proclaiming him Not for Sale.

"No kidding." Blair emptied the old-fashioned cash register that had once resided in Moonstone Lake"s general store back in the mid-1800s and tucked the checks, cash, and coins into a bank bag. With the spell surrounding the bag, no thief would dare try to steal it unless he wanted his hands covered in nasty itching powder that wouldn"t disappear for years. Blair Fitzpatrick took her revenge spells seriously and did the utmost to protect her assets. No shoplifter would get away without some serious pain.

    A magical read!!

    Linda Wisdom's "Wicked by any other name" 3rd in her series has such a fun oddball paranormal character's in all her books and in each one brings somthing new and magical to each book.In "Wicked by any other name" Stasi has a lingerie shop and on the side she also casts love charms. She's a true romantic at heart and wants everyone to find love,but one woman was really mean to her husdand so Stasi steped in.Now the disgruntled woman want to sue Stasi so she hires the tuffest Wizard attorney around sexy Travor's Barnes.But if that wasn't all she need the town and the towns people also the ghost that live there started to act as if their was dark magic in the air.On top of all the chaos Cupid decides to play a practical joke on Stasi.With the help of her witchy friends Blair & Jazz and Nick the vampire,Irma & Fergus the ghosts,Horace the perv gargoyle they try to solve the mystery. this was a great book I can't wait to start the 4th book of the series"Hex in high heels."

    Great Paranormal Romance

    This story is about Anastasia Romanov, Stasi. She is a sweet witch, that always believes the best in people, and runs a lingerie shop by her best friend, Blair's, retro shop. Carrie, a local, believes Stasi put a spell on her husband to leave, so she filed a law suit in Wizard Court. Trevor Barnes is the wizard attorney. He goes to Moonstone to meet Stasi and tries to talk her into settling. While there, Cupid pulls a little joke and has hearts dancing over Trev and Stasi's heads, a story along the line that they are true loves.

    Soon it will be Samhain and Blair and Stasi are getting excited, law suit not considering. But something strange is going on. the local ghosts are fading away, like something is destroying them. Then there is a strange barrier around the lake with flames that instantly destroy trespassers. And the locals are starting a witch hunt because of Carrie's accusations. With a strange snow that doesn't let people into the area, no power, and no way to start anything mechanical, Stasi and Blair have there hands full.

    This is the third book Linda Wisdom as wrote. It's not really a series, but the other two are linked with the characters. But you can read this book as a stand alone and have no problems understanding what is going on.

    There is great humor, a god plot, and wonderful characters. My only complaint is that the book started taking a turn on the relationship between Stasi and Trev and left the main plot on the back burner. I recommend this to anyone that likes the paranormal romances. I cannot wait to read the other two books.

    Wicked By Any Other Name by Linda Wisdom

    Three witches, a hunky warlock, a sexy vampire, and a mysterious collie are the six main characters in Linda Wisdom's latest novel. Of course, I should also mention the talking Kit-Kat clock, a miniature stone gargoyle that's alive, a magical Yorkie/Chihuahua mix, and rabid bunny slippers. If this sounds hilarious, that's because it is and "Wicked by Any Other Name" is chock full of humor and hot sex to boot.

    Stasi and Blair live in a lovely small town with a magical lake that they and their close witch friend, Jazz, have protected and honored for hundreds of years. With Halloween, or Samhain, just around the corner they're looking forward to a wonderful holiday filled with friends. Until Stasi is served with a lawsuit in Warlock court and the attorney facing her just happens to be one of the best there is. When he appears in her shop to discuss the lawsuit, she's furious...and can't help but notice that he's smoking hot as well...and sporting a halo of hearts which means he's her true love! But how can that be? Everybody knows that witches and warlocks don't mix. Right?

    Trevor is a skilled warlock and a darn good attorney. He still can't figure out how a bitter human female managed to con him into taking her case but he just can't regret it. If he hadn't taken the case, he wouldn't have met the woman of his dreams, uh witch of...OK, a really sexy woman who just happens to be witch. But Trevor's no idiot warlock, he knows a good thing when he sees it and he's not about to let anything, human or inhuman, derail this relationship.

    This story was by turns sweet, hot, funny, sad, and sexy. I enjoyed both of Linda Wisdom's earlier stories about Jazz and her hot vamp so I was especially pleased to learn more about Stasi and Blair. The tone of the whole book is light so even the sadder parts don't drag down your spirits or last too long. The cast of characters (including the animals) mesh well and there's a secondary love story that readers can enjoy. I'm hoping Blair will get a book just for her so I can come back to visit Wisdom's wacky world.

    Seven centuries ago student witch Stasi Romanov and twelve classmates were kicked out of the Witches Academy for unruly behavior. Over the years Stasi matured somewhat; some insist experience taught her to hide her impish side though she uses a bit of magic to insure success at her lingerie shop and to sell love charms in Moorstone Lake. <BR/><BR/>However, her luck runs out when one of her luck charms fails to bring satisfaction to the client. The customer Carrie the human abomination hires wizard attorney Trevor Barnes to sue Stasi. She is outraged when she receives the summons to appear in Wizard¿s Court. Meanwhile Cupid decides to have impish fun when he sees the attraction between Stasi and Trevor while an unknown evil adversary is playing games with the townsfolk and an eclipse is leading to a witch hunt. As Stasi and Trevor fall in love, a taboo as everyone knows witches and wizards are oil and water, the old gang of thirteen come together to try to save the day.<BR/><BR/>This is an entertaining lighthearted romantic frolic starring two likable opposites (a given when a wizard meets a witch) and a charming support cast; except Cassie who contains no charm in her make-up as even her bone marrow can wither a love charm with her caustic personality.     "Sparks fly when a love charm goes awry, and Stasi finds herself in a preternatural lawsuit matching wits with devastatingly handsome wizard attorney Trevor Barnes. Then mysterious magic from an unknown enemy threatens to turn Stasi's quiet town into a modern day Salem, and Stasi's witchy friends from long ago gather for the fight. They need Trevor's powerful help. But every witch knows you can't trust a wizard, and soon Stasi is fighting for her life and her heart."<BR/><BR/>This book is fun. The first thing that caught my eye is the cover art. And once I started reading the book I discovered that this isn't your typical witch. When Stasi gets nervous she hiccups bubbles, she has a dog that floats around and her store has a peeping tom watch-gargoyle to protect it. These are just a few of the quirky, oddball and even silly things in this book. When Stasi gets in trouble and the people of the town start turning against her, her friends all arrive on the scene to help find out who or what is causing all the trouble. This is a great little lighthearted romance. The image of Stasi and her wizard walking around with hearts circling in the air above their heads (compliments of cupid) is one I won't soon forget. It's sexy, silly and in the end love conquers all...can it get much better than that?
