FOUR STARS! "The grand manipulator gets his comeuppance when he meets tempting, independent American patriot Eva Noring de Mouriere. . . Meddling has its price, as Lucien discovers, and fans of the series will be more than satisfied to see him get just what he deserves! Danelle Harmon's delightful sense of humor, her marvelous characters and her true understanding of the ties that bind a family turn THE WICKED ONE into the perfect, well-crafted conclusion to her series!"
Lisa Kleypas
"Provocative and passionate!"
Mary Novak
DESERT ISLE KEEPER! "Eva is Lucien's equal . . . Most romance couples have complementary strengths and weaknesses; I adore the rarer couples who match each other exactly. Eva is every bit as smart, dangerous, and difficult as Lucien; it's Machiavelli meets Lucrezia Borgia, and the sparks they do fly!"

    Enjoyable historical romance

Avon, Jan 2001, $5.99, 384 pp. ISBN: 0380809095 In 1777 England, Duke Lucien Blackheath has played a Machiavellan matchmaker, manipulating family members by assuring the right marriages for his siblings (see THE WILD ONE and THE DEFIANT ONE). However, Lucien may have met his match when Eva Noring de Mouriere enters his boudoir with a gun in hand. Eva accuses Lucien of giving his siblings, bottles containing a fake aphrodisiac that she stole from them and almost killed the French king with it. She forces him to use the vial and tests it with heated lovemaking.
As they keep ¿rendezvousing¿, their sexual tension reaches stratospheric proportions without the help of an elixir. When she becomes pregnant, his brothers turn the tables on Lucien forcing the confirmed bachelor into marriage even if he and Eva love one another.
The third and final Blackheath tale, THE WICKED ONE, is wickedly delightful as the Duke meets his match in the fiery independent Eva. The story line is a jocular historical romance that uses humor to diffuse the serious undertone of the importance of family in an individual¿s life. The lead couple screams passion to the reader while the return of heroes from the previous books adds to the fervor of Danelle Harmon¿s enticing tale.
Harriet Klausner

    The best of the 4

I LOVE Lucien! He is definitely my favorite of the brothers! Imagine earning alove & devotion of such a cold machavellian brute as he is! I liked Eva immediately when she made her first appearance in The Defiant one. I just couldntimagine the adventure & the fate of either her or Lucien but this was a fast paced read & Danelle once again sets a perfect story with a bit of mystery, adventure & plenty of sexual tension!

I highly highly recommend this whole de Montforte series all 4 b

I highly highly recommend this whole de Montforte series all 4 books were excellent and each one different. I absolutely loved them all and cannot wait to read more from the author and really anticipating Nerissa & Perry's book. Lucien, Duke of Blackheath, is always in control and has a very Machiavellian way of gaining what he wants for the benefit of his family. I suggest that readers read the book in order so they can appreciate Lucien and all he does to ensure his siblings happiness. Well in this one they get their payback and what a great story it is. Eva is the perfect woman for Lucien even though neither of them want or need anyone. READ THIS SERIES!!

    Fan-fricken-tastic

This was my favorite out of all the series. Torchered soul and a history
with men that will have any woman want to avoid men. I found this book of Lucian
and Eva funny and heart stopping.

Lucian having dreams and not letting anyone in because he feels it's his burden,
And needs to protect his family by marrying them off and seeing to their happiness.
All the while his family plots to marry him off by getting the king to write a letter. You
know what they say about payback!

Eva is witty and enegmatic as well. Strong and adventurous. It's what gets Luc's attention,
and falls in love with that. The things she does to Lucian are hilarious She is his match in every way. But Eva has sworn off men since she caught her husband fooling around with her maid. Plus a past that she can not get past.

Once they let themselves love each other, it is so strong it captures your heart as well.

All in all it's a must read.

The last in the series and all I can say is FINALLY the Duke get

The last in the series and all I can say is FINALLY the Duke gets his own just rewards! It starts w/an bang and keeps going. Normally by the end of a series you are happy that it's done but not this one! Through out all four books the dynamic's between the brothers hasn't changed. We laugh, we cry, we want to strangle the Duke.

    Missing part of the story

I feel like i skipped part of the story. The end of book 3 has Lucien riding off in anger. Searching for Eva...He was bleeding profusely and looking for revenge..I think...Book 4 begins with her pregant and safe in the bosom of his family. Other than this, the entire series is a must read.
