School Library Journal - School Library JournalK-Gr 8-A collection of 31 nature crafts, each with a list of supplies needed and a few "Fun Facts" about the animal subject. Most of the projects involve creating models or puppets, usually animated in some way. All activities are assigned appropriate grade levels. Clear line drawings in black and white with green and blue highlights or backgrounds illustrate the step-by-step instructions. Some full-size decorations and patterns suitable for photocopying are provided. Suggestions for additional activities are also included, many referring to other titles in the series or in one case to an issue of Ranger Rick dating from 1987. There is a brief further-reading list of nature craft books and an index of animals covered. Gwen Diehn and Terry Krautwurst's Nature Crafts for Kids (Sterling, 1992) and Kid Style Nature Crafts (Lark, 1995) each include 50 projects arranged by seasons. Science teachers and camp counselors looking for extra project ideas would find Wild and Crafty useful, however.-Pam Gosner, formerly at Maplewood Memorial Library, NJ Copyright 1999 Cahners Business Information.
