Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature
A variety of baby animals, usually accompanied by a parent, fill the pages of this book. Kids will learn that a kangaroo is no larger than a bee when born, that a baby dolphin knows its mother's voice, and that parents nurture and protect their babies. The photographs are excellent and the inset images point out a specific characteristic, such as the trunk of an elephant or the tough thick lips of a giraffe. At the end of the book, these same images make up a picture word list. It's a book that kids will go back to many times. There is a note to parents on the opening page about the series and the importance of reading. A Level 1 book in the "Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Readers" series. 2000, DK Publishing, and $3.95. Ages 4 to 6. Reviewer: Marilyn Courtot
