All Music Guide - Scott Yanow
This CD contains the complete Wild Bill Davison session of December 3, 1943 which was originally made as radio transciptions and part of a date led by the cornetist in 1955. Only three songs are included from the later session, which matches Davison with trombonist Lou McGarity, clarinetist Tony Parenti, pianist Hank Duncan, bassist Pops Foster and drummer Zutty Singleton, but there are also 12 false starts and 11 alternate takes, eight of which are incomplete. Obviously this CD is mostly for true Dixieland completists and fanatics, but fans of Wild Bill Davison will find his many consistently colorful variations worth hearing.
