Meet the Author
One of the leaders of the contemporary earth spirituality movement, Patricia Monaghan (1946 - 2012) had spent more than 20 years researching and writing about alternative visions of the earth. Raised in Alaska, where much of her family still lives, she considered herself blessed to have learned the ecology of the taiga, the subarctic forest, in her youth. She was a writer and reporter on science and energy-related issues before turning her attention to the impact of mythic structures on our everyday lives.
The worldwide vision of the earth as feminineas a goddess, called Gaia by the Greeksled her to recognize the connection between ecological damage and the oppression of the feminine in Western society. Much of her work since that time had explored the question of the role of feminine power in our world, in an inclusive and multicultural way.
An avid traveler, Patricia had researched earth spirituality and goddess worship on three continents, and traveled widely in Europe, especially in Ireland. She held dual US/Irish citizenship and edited two anthologies of contemporary Irish-American writing.
Patricia was member of the resident faculty at DePaul University's School for New Learning in Chicago, where she taught science and literature. She passed from this world in November 2012 and is survived by her husband, Dr Michael McDermott.

This book is just what I have been looking for. It is perfect for my 13yr old daughter because it talks about issues that matter to her in a meaningful way that is appropriate for the child of a pagan family. It discusses issues like your body and friendships in a comfortable and open way as well as talking about spirituality and magic. Each chapter is illustrated by a myth retold beautifuly.
When I started learning, and getting intrested in the craft, which it was about 3 years back, this was the first book I've ever own, but I really wouldent recomend it for teens, but then again it's good for JUST beginners, because it really was boring, but then I realized that its very perfecto for the youngest member of the family, or if your family is teached by the realigion, its great for the amaganation for your child to get him/her intested into the craft! so I give it a Five! it teaches you lessions just like any other, and when they get older they'll look back on that lession and learn from it!
Wild Girls is perfect for all the girls in your life. It's chock full of fascinating tales from around the globe. A wonderful resource for girls(and people who care about girls), interested in mythology, religion, goddesses, feminism, and other cultures
