Editorial Reviews

The Camden Herald
"lavishly illustrated guide is inspiration enough to get out there and identify those orchids in our midst... One of a kind, special and lovely. An invaluable addition to any collection on native flora."
Library Journal
Editor of the North American Native Orchid Journal and a research associate at the University of Florida Herbarium, Brown makes a significant contribution to orchid literature with this handy checklist and field guide. In alphabetical order, he presents brief but highly informative descriptions of both native and naturalized exotic orchids that can be found in the United States and Canada. Each plant entry contains a color photo of the orchid's inflorescence, a line drawing of the entire plant, and brief locality and taxonomic (reflecting the most current nomenclature) information. A minor detraction is the lack of an accompanying map showing the geographic distribution of each orchid. Still, this guide serves as an excellent complement to Carlyle A. Luer's Native Orchids of the United States and Canada and Brown's own Native Orchids of Florida-in fact, a supplement of corrections and additions to these volumes is included at the end. Recommended for most libraries and essential for botanical and horticultural libraries.-Brian Lym, City Coll. Lib. of San Francisco Copyright 2003 Reed Business Information.
