Wild Plants of Greater Seattle: 2nd Edition

Wild Plants of Greater Seattle: 2nd Edition

by Arthur Lee Jacobson

Editorial Reviews

Rectifying the short shrift that most nature field guides give to city plants, the author of several books on trees (including one on Seattle area trees), begins with discussion of what defines a plant as a native or neo-native, the uses of wild plants, their habitats, their use in gardens and landscapes, and a month-by-month calendar of highlights and best viewing times and places in the Seattle area. The heart of the book consists of about 500 plant descriptions illustrated with line drawings, which is coupled with an an annotated checklist of 1,270 plants, a glossary, suggested reading and resources lists, and a detailed index (37 pages). Clearly a labor of love, this informative book is written in a personable style; it has also been carefully manufactured, with the rounded corners that are a "plus" on a field guide. Annotation c.
