Overview

What has she done? With a new identity, a staged death, and a chance to flee the treachery that stalks her, Rachael has escaped from a faceless assassin. Now, thousands of miles from home, under the lush canopy of the rain forest, she’s found sanctuary.

Where can she hide? In this world teeming with unusual creatures walks the most exotic of them all. His name is Rio. A native of the forest imbued with a fierce prowess, he is something to be desired. Possessed of secrets of his own, he is something to be feared.

Whom can she trust? But as Rachael’s past looms as oppressively as the heat of the forest, and as Rio unleashes the secret animal instincts that course through his blood, Rachael fears that her isolated haven has become an inescapable hell…

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Feehan has a knack for bringing vampiric Carpathians to vivid, virile life in her Dark Carpathian novels, and in this new book, which builds on her short story "The Awakening," she focuses on a different kind of sensual predator-a half-human/half-leopard species of shapeshifters. Mysterious freelance paramilitary operative Rio Santana is a member of this breed, but he's been banished from his clan and lives in a solitary rainforest dwelling. Enter Rachel Lospostos, who has marooned herself in the jungle to escape a group of murderers. Blood runs hot between the two, both emotionally and literally-their first meeting is a near-terminal cat fight that leaves Rachel bedridden with a mangled leg and a broken wrist. As Rio cares for her, it becomes clear that their relationship is fated, but it may soon be cut short if they don't figure out who wants Rachel dead. Suspense often takes a backseat to the protagonists' romantic feelings, but Feehan handles both elements skillfully, drawing villains who are sufficiently threatening and creating a romance that feels both destined and believable. Readers whose fantasies center on untamed wilderness and on untamed heroes who are as sensitive as they are strong will be seduced by this erotic adventure. (Feb.) Meet the Author

Christine Feehan - I live in the beautiful mountains of Lake County, California. I have always loved hiking, camping, rafting and being outdoors. I’ve also been involved in the martial arts for years - I hold a third degree black belt, instruct in a Korean karate system, and have taught self-defense. I am happily married to a romantic man who often inspires me with his thoughtfulness. We have a yours, mine, and ours family, claiming eleven children as our own. I have always written books, forcing my ten sisters to read every word, and now my daughters read and help me edit my manuscripts. It is fun to take all the research I have done on wild animals, raptors, vampires, weather, and volcanoes and put it together with romance.

Read an Excerpt

Rachael came awake, instantly aware of impending danger. The smell of wet fur mixed with the scent of something feral, something dangerous. There had been no sound, but the feeling was so overwhelming she instinctively reached for the shotgun. Fingers circled her wrist in a vise-like grip, crushing bone against tendon. The shotgun was torn from her hand easily, her attacker strong beyond her wildest imagining. She jerked her captured wrist toward her as if to struggle against his hold. Simultaneously, she brought up her left hand, gripping with the short rattan-filled stick and slamming it with sickening force against her assailant's head. She rolled sideways away from him to drop to the floor, the bed between them.

To her horror, Rachael landed inches from glowing red eyes, hot breath in her face, gaping, hideous jaws filled with teeth coming straight at her. Not just any teeth, she was staring at what looked like a saber-toothed tiger. Thrusting the stick between the dripping fangs, she scrambled away, desperate to reach the fireplace and a weapon, any weapon to defend herself. A hand grabbed her, missed, slid off her legs. She nearly made it across the room, reaching out for the heavy metal poker just inches from her fingers. Another step, a lunge and she'd have a chance. Something caught her ankle in a savage trap, tearing at her flesh, dragging her down, slashing mercilessly with sharp teeth.

Rachael imagined it was like being hit by a shark. Hard. The force of a freight train. She could hear someone swearing, animals breathing loudly, a terrible chuffing noise. Something hissed. Panic overwhelmed her, nearly shutting down her brain. Red-hot pain shot through her entire body, the agony taking her breath away. Gathering itself for another attack, a second leopard leapt at her. Gritting her teeth, Rachael threw herself forward, a scream ripping her throat as the lance-like teeth pierced and shredded flesh to crunch on bone. Her fingers curled around the poker, swinging it at the animal with desperate strength. A hand caught her wrist, abruptly stopping the vicious cut in midair.

A man loomed over her, dark and powerful, his face that of an avenging devil, thrust close to hers. To her horror the face contorted, fur bursting through skin, teeth filling the strong jaw. A leopard's hot breath blew in her face, the teeth at her throat. Not a small, clouded leopard, but a huge black leopard. The leopard's gaze fixed on her with merciless intent. Rachael saw the piercing intelligence in the brilliant yellow-green eyes. The haunting stare, smoldering with fire, with deadly danger, was etched into her mind. She closed her eyes, willing herself to faint, yet she could not shut out the focused stare.

    Great paranormal romance

Rachel Lospostos knows that the only way she may live will be to fake her death from an unknown hitman. Her opportunity occurs while sailing on a jungle river when rebels attack their party. Rachel jumps into the river to fake her death, but manages to get ashore. She finds a home in the middle of the jungle and takes sanctuary there............................ After being wounded in a mission, Rio returns to his jungle home only to find a woman inside. He and his snow leopards assume she is an assassin so one of his animal comrades attacks her. Once calm prevails, he finds she is badly injured, but both act like they have known each other forever. As he nurses her back to health, someone is coming to eliminate her, but that assassin is unaware that she is loved by a were-leopard who will kill for his woman........................................ This paranormal romantic suspense provides readers with a powerful tale that pumps up the adrenaline of the audience any time the lead couple talk or just stare at one another in loving disbelief. Though the reason for wanting Rachel eliminated is revealed kind of late in the plot, fans will appreciate the courageous protagonists. WILD RAIN is a fabulous jungle love story that showcases Christine Feehan¿s ability to make the mind-boggling seem very believable............................. Harriet Klausner

Love can be found in the strangest of places and at the most unlikely of times, but it is at the right time and the right place for love.

Love can be found in the strangest of places and at the most unlikely of times, but it is at the right time and the right place for love.
“Wild Rain” is one of my absolute favorite books written by Christine Feehan. I loved Rio and felt that he was quite possibly one of the sweetest hero’s I have ever come across. He is so lonely and he deserved much more than what he got from his elders. I was so happy when he found Rachel they are so great together. It took a while for Rio to warm up to Rachel, but once he did the sparks flew.
Rachael was a beautiful woman both inside and out. She didn’t have the best life and she tried her best to escape that, but as she finds out you can’t run from your past. Her character really grew a lot throughout the course of the story and I think a lot of that was because of Rio. She grew more confident and courageous learning to stand her ground no matter how scary that might be.
There was plenty of action and mystery as well as readers learn more about not only Rio’s past, but Rachael’s as well. Rio’s skill in combat was proven many times throughout the book as they fought against the people out to get Rachael. The intense scenes were balanced out with plenty of romantic interludes between Rachael and Rio.
This book was a wonderful read that I’m sure many paranormal romance readers will love, especially if they like shifters.

very Highly Recommended... 2 thumbs up :)

excellent book and normally I am not one for reading but people who can turn into some animal, but loved the book and in fact have purchased the whole leopard series, Christine Feehan is a wonderful writer that knows how to capture your attention with just the right blend of details, the right blend of adventure and romance that keeps you interested in what happens to other members that she weaves through out the books. I know I can't wait to see who's story she will turn her talented skills upon!

    Excellent!

Sets the tone for the ones that follow. Must read if you read the later ones first you never grasp Rio as a fully developed character and some of the humor is lost.

    I Also Recommend:

    Not too bad

I am glad that I read Burning Wild first. If I had read this one first I would not have been inclined to read the 3rd intstallment. While I confess that I do like to read romance novels I am not a soft romance kind of reader. I enjoy the urban fantasy/paranormal more. If you enjoy hard hitting flat out romance. This is the book for you. There were some parts that I glanced through as the were a bit long, but I enjoyed the characters and the basic storyline. Rio was an interestering character and his relationship with Rachel developed so quickly I was taken aback, but that was addressed. There were a few plot twists that did keep me interested. Not too bad.

    Yowza!!

Ok Rio is hot! I read Burning Wild before reading Wild Rain, and let me tell you, it is just as sizzling! If you like one, you will like the other - though Jake and Rio are as different as night and day. The sex scenes are definetily steamy & erotic, so if you are into that, you will like this book.

    Leopard Series Not Feehan's Best

Worth reading but not as involving as Feehan's Drake Sister's series or her Dark series

    Wildly Unbelievable

Feehan is known for her ability to mix the paranormal with the sexy, but in this case, she has struck out. The relationship between the two main characters is implausible (admittedly, not such a new thing in the romance genre), and much of the plot drags. It seems that Feehan has attempted to write three stories in one: a romance, a paranormal intrigue, and a drug-ring mystery. Unfortunately, with the text being pulled in so many directions, it is impossible to do full justice to any of the storylines (even though they each have potential). Rio and Rachel's memories of past lives together are never explained; is this part of shapeshifting, or not? Rachel's revelation about her drug-running family takes forever to appear in the story, which doesn't make much sense; there's too much foreshadowing and too many allusions to a dark past and darker future, and she keeps the secret for far too long when measured against the trust she keeps saying she feels in Rio. For those who love sex, there's plenty of it, but it often feels forced, and the relationship between sexual activity and the shapeshifters' animalistic nature is mentioned constantly without ever being explained. Feehan's devoted fans will want to round out their collection with this, but non-diehards will be better served by perusing one of her other novels.

    Jennifer Wardrip - Personal Read

Christine Feehan has once again launched her readers into a world where anything can, and usually does, happen---with a nice, big dose of the sexy paranormal thrown in.

Feehan fans and newcomers alike won't be able to help being enthralled by the lush setting of this book, the hunky hero, the sleek jaguars of the jungle, and a heroine who is too damn spunky to let a little matter of being hunted get her down.

    Definitely a winner!

    loved this book !!

This is the first book I've read of this author and I absolutely LOVED it. Have never read a book like this, with the paranormal/shape shifters involved, but I loved it. The romance was great and surprisingly believable...and then there was the basic story of how they meet and trouble they find themselves in. Can't wait to read more of this author....again fabulous book !!!

    Definitely recommended for romance lovers

I've read a lot of romance novels before, trying to find one that perfectly matched me, and I finally found it in this book. It doesn't have the cheesy over-the-top style found in many of the Regency-type romances, or the...blatant sexuality found in the more smutty novels. Instead, this has a style that is so casually erotic, it sweeps you in right away. The action is just enough so you don't feel like it's overshadowing everything else, and the plot was enjoyable. My one major complaint is that the ending was a little too abrupt for the immense buildup. Still, this is a great read, sensual and romantic.

This Is The Best Book She's Written

I couldn't put this book down! It's a great suspence, action-adventure, sci-fi, romance! It's very different from the Dark series. I can't remember how many times I've read it! There was never a slow point, you are either wondering about the romance between Rio and Rachel or if they can survive being hunted...

    Okay Read

I am a great fan of Christine's books. Especially the Dark series and Shadow game. I found this to be a little disappointing. It lacked her usual 'what's going to happen next' feeling you get as you read her books. I found this book to be a little too predictable when reading it.

    Great Read

I have never read any of her books before and was in line to check out with it when a lady told me it was a great book.. I read the book and found it to be interesting. I am more of a Vampire type of gal but I find the whole shape shifting concept interesting. I was not disappointed with this book.. I look forward to her next one.
