Very Broad Overview of Nature Sound

The back cover of this book states that the author will 'teach you the tricks of the trade' of nature recording. That is an overstatment. The book provides a broad overview of nature sound with very little technical explanation of how to capture the sound. If you want to read several chapters on why nature sound is important and how humans are impacting natural soundscapes, then this is the book for you. If you want to learn about the technical aspects, as I did, then look elsewhere. The technical explanations provided in this book can be summarized with the sentence 'you'll need a microphone, headphones and something to record to.' Not particularly helpful to someone who wants to explore the craft of sound recording.
