Overview

This is the story of the trapper, Link Stevens, and his fearless snow dog, Chiri. It began when the trapper and his dog set out to rescue a naturalist stranded in the perilous Caribou mountains--the impenetrable storm-blasted heights from which no man has ever retumed. My favorite book in 6th grade

This is one of the most memorable books I read as a young boy. I can still remember the story line of the book and I'm almost 40 with four kids of my own. I'm hunting for every Kjelgaard book I can find because I read most of them when I was young and I want my boys to have the joy of reading them. They truly are unique and priceless works.

    Wild Trek

This was the most captivating book I read in 5th grade and I read this book countless times. It keeps you enthralled from the first page to the last. I wanted to be Link and that started my quest to be a Park Ranger which I have been for 20 years. Jim Kjelgaard has written some fantastic kids books and this I believe is the best. When I first discovered Mr. Kjelgaard, in our small rural school library he had been gone for 10 years. But I could not get enough of his writing and the librarian kept getting loaners for me to read. Thank you Jim Kjelgaard for taking me on those adventures as a boy.

One of the greatest childhood stories I've read! It helped shape

One of the greatest childhood stories I've read! It helped shape me into the outdoorsy mountain backpacking/hiking/exploring guy I've become. Jim Kjelgaard is an amazing writer of children's adventure stories. There's not really a bad one in the bunch, but this particular book (and its predecessor Snow Dog) were particularly wonderful.
