Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Wildlife photography is among that art form's most challenging endeavors. Unlike studio or even some news photographers, wildlife shooters must endure the physical stresses of severe weather, difficult and sometimes dangerous terrain, and extremely uncooperative subjects—some of which would eat them. As this collection shows, wildlife photography can also be magnificently rewarding. This 20th portfolio volume represents the winning or commended images of nearly 90 professional/amateur photographers in the prestigious international Veolia Environment Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition for 2010. The color and monochrome photos capture landscapes and creatures on land, in the air, on water, and underwater. The pictures reveal nature's beauty while also depicting its danger and steady destruction by humankind. Each photo sports a caption providing background on the featured critter or scenery as well as anecdotes on how it was photographed. A nice bonus is the inclusion of the tech specs identifying the camera make and model, lens stats, shooting speed, aperture, ISO, and any accessories used. VERDICT Though the pictures are stunning, this collection is equally concerned with delivering an environmental warning. Wildlife photography enthusiasts and nature lovers will be wowed.—Mike Rogers, Library Journal
