Overview

Nicole Williams-founder of the successful career development and marketing company Wildly Sophisticated Media Inc.-has made a living out of honing the job skills of young women and pointing them in the right career direction. These are smart, ambitious, stylish women who want to conquer the world, and with a "Wildly Sophisticated" attitude they can make it happen. Nicole shows women how to use their passions, their individuality, and their courage to build a career that exceeds their most outrageous dreams.

An honest blend of best friend, personal cheerleader, and "been-there done-that" mentor, author Nicole Williams uses her own experience-as well as that of other Wildly Sophisticated women-to help readers not just get a job, but pave a path. She shows them how to pull themselves up by their Blahnik straps, take those drinks-after-work dreams, and turn them into reality.

Packed full of useful information, constructive solutions, inspiring stories, "Career Confessions," and "One-on-One" secrets to success, Wildly Sophisticated is the one book that no young working woman can afford to leave on the shelf.

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal
Williams, president of the Vancouver-based image and career consulting company, Wildly Sophisticated Media, has written a candid, in-your-face book for the 18-34 demographic of women. Each chapter opens with a question that introduces the topic, e.g., "What Are You Revealing?" for self-expression. The advice throughout is specific, and much of it would be useful for men as well. What's not useful for men or women is her commentary about sex. Reiterating what is in the book, Williams said in a Washington Post interview this year: "You can't make it if you're cute and flirtatious but stupid." Presumably, dalliance accompanied by intelligence is acceptable. Add to that dubious assertion the cover shot of a pair of crossed, shapely legs-and only legs. Despite an abundance of positive press, the disturbing implications of the cover and doubtful advice on femininity in the workplace mar an otherwise useful guide. Consider Gail Evans (e.g., Play Like a Man, Win Like a Woman) as an alternate author for the subject of women on the job. Copyright 2004 Reed Business Information.

a career guide, or guide for life

I absolutely loved this book. Nicole Williams is a witty and inspired writer. I'm very fortunate to be a stay-at-home mom of 3, and I'm currently making that my career. The book made me rethink how I am portraying myself not in my work environment, but in my community and amongst my friends and peers. It's a great guide for self-improvement not only for career women, but also for those of us who want to be better women in general. By the time I finished this book, I felt like Nicole was a friend--someone I could sit and tell anything to and with whom I could have a great conversation. You won't regret reading this!!

    A Must Read!

From the first page of this book I knew I had found a book I could easily recommend to my friends. I could NOT put it down, and after reading it was anxious to tell all my female friends, but as well was anxious to have my three teenage sons read it as well. Nicole Williams advice and strategies were applicable to both female and male. I know its a book I will refer to many times.

great book for the office book club

This book is especially good for woman just entering their careers. Its not only very useful in its information but entertaining. I havent found too many business career books entertaining. I enjoyed the stories in the book. I especially liked one of the authors personal stories on how she went to a image consultant. Just cracked me up. The image that was put in my head of her experience is still cracking me up. I think this would be a fanstatic book to use in a book club at the office. And if you dont have one now and plan on starting a book club this is the book to start with. Great advice! Stories you can talk about for your entire lunch hour!

    Inspiring and packed with information

I just finished this book and I could barely put it down! It's funny, honest, and really motivational. I've read a lot of 'career books,' but this one is in a whole new league. Not only was I inspired, but I actually learned how to achieve all my goals. Nicole Williams gives you practical steps combined with a great big push to get going, no matter where you are in your career. The best part is, it's so enjoyable that you just want to keep reading. By the end, you suddenly realize how much you've learned!

    Smart and inspiring

This book really delivered the goods -- it was motivating and smart, but it also gave me useful advice about how to deal with a crazy boss, how to negotiate an office romance, or how to juggle all the aspects of my crazy life. I felt like Nicole Williams was my friend after reading this book.
