Meet the Author

Will Shortz has been the crossword puzzle editor of The New York Times since 1993. He is also the puzzlemaster on NPR’s Weekend Edition Sunday and is founder and director of the annual American Crossword Puzzle Tournament. He has edited countless books of crossword puzzles, Sudoku, KenKen, and all manner of brain-busters.

    Pleasantly difficult

    I found this Sudoku book to be a good balance or fairly difficult puzzles (for fuzzier headed days) and real brain teasers. Some "difficult" books are not challenging at all for the experienced sudoku-addict, and some are so out there that you can't puzzle your way out, but just end up using pencil and guessing. the one thing I would suggest is tear out pages, since my addiction lead to carpal tunnel from holding the pages open... until i started tearing them out.

    This is about at the level of LA Times 4 or 5 difficulty.

    Calisthenics for the Brain

    I love to start and end my day with this book. It gets the juices flowing to the brain. Challenging, but not impossible.

    Not for beginners

    I love this sudoku book because it's the first one that takes me a little while to solve, but I don't have to "cheat" to solve the puzzles. The ones in the back do get tricky, however, that's why I bought this book...I wanted a challenge.
