    A "Wolly-Golly Doodad" of a Book

This little cupid will cause you to fall in love.but not because of her bow and arrow. Willa Bean is a cupid with a mess of wild, curly hair that grows up, out, and sideways. She has a "milli-bajillion freckles" and wings of purple feathers with silver tips. Her and her friend Harper spend their days hunting for treasure, and quite a bit of it gets stored in Willa Bean's Hair. But now things are changing, as the pair are set to begin Cupid Academy. Only problem is, Willa Bean can't fly, and the fiesty little cupid is worried she will be the only one in her class who can't.

At first, I was a little put off by the "cuteness" of the story. But it really takes off, and Willa Bean's adorable personality really shoots an arrow straight into your heart. Though I received only a galley of the book, the illustrations in sketch format are cute. As I read it to my four year old, she didn't mind their rough format. I am sure the final product will be even more captivating.

The message of the book is great for those kids struggling to fit in, or to address the frustration headstrong girls feel. My youngest and I were able to discuss her similarities with Willa Bean, and how she deals with some of the frustration she feels. I would recommend this book for girls young as 4-5, and up to about 8, depending upon their reading level. It is a great for those children who are just beginning to read chapter books.

I give it five stars, a must have for your daughter's bookshelf. The book will be available for purchase late December. If you would like to read more about Cecilia Galante, or check out her other titles, check out her website.

    more from this reviewer

    Wonderful, spunky, and impetuous.

This was a delightful book for early school aged children or early readers. The girls enjoyed Willa Bean's antics - though I cringed - and giggled quite frequently.
