Overview

It's almost summer on Cape Cod, where Willa Havisham and Joey Kennelly are finally enjoying their status as the most compatible couple at Bramble Academy. When the community theater advertises auditions for Our Town, Willa and Joey seem fated to play the romantic leads. But when Marielle, the dazzling new girl, offers up some dramatic competition, Willa turns greener than the lawn at her parents' inn.

With two inn weddings the same weekend in June, Willa, who is now the official assistant wedding planner, has enough to do just helping Chef Rosie bake the wedding cakes of the century, and keeping sixteen beauty pageant bridesmaids in check. When a dance with a Southern gentleman sends her spinning under the stars, there's no telling what is destined for Willa and Joey.

Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Heidi Hauser Green
A book with an imprint logo that is fashioned to look like a bottled frosty pink lip gloss (or perhaps nail polish) must be pretty far from something I would want to read. That was my immediate impression, and it was reinforced by the flowery pink cover and wispy cover art. I was sure from the outset that it would be a predictable frippery of a book. I am pleased to admit that I was wrong. Potential readers should be urged not to judge this book by its cover, as the story itself should appeal to many more than will be drawn to the cover itself. While there is romance—the main character's mother is a wedding planner, after all, and the plot here includes not one but two weddings—the focus is on Willa Havisham, a likeable fourteen year old, and one tumultuous summer. The arrival of an intriguing new girl, Mariel, inspires jealousy in Willa. She worries about her relationship with her boyfriend. She pines for the lead role in the community theater production of Our Town. She adjusts to her mother's pregnancy and a good friend's relocation. Best of all, she shifts her interests from building a library to building a community, and the results are terrific if somewhat unrealistic. Coleen Murtagh Paratore has written Willa with a voice that rings true, and readers will enjoy this third book in "The Wedding Planner's Daughter" series. Reviewer: Heidi Hauser Green

Gr 5-8- In this third installment in the series, Willa plans to spend the summer reading on the beach, but life isn't so simple. The Bramblebriar Inn, which her family owns, has two weddings to plan. The teen is hoping to land the role of Emily in a local production of Our Town , but fears that a beautiful new girl is trying to steal her boyfriend and her part in the play. And when Willa's mother announces that she is pregnant, the high school student has mixed feelings about becoming a big sister for the first time. Luckily, Willa is as headstrong and enchanting as the heroines in the books she devours. The novel's descriptive narrative will hook readers from the start, and the protagonist's irrepressible wit will keep them going. They will fall in love with Willa's family and friends, who populate the quaint Cape Cod town. The author makes every effort to fill in the gaps for those who haven't read the earlier books, but this volume does not stand alone. However, the characters are so lovable that readers will want to go back to the earlier titles.-Julianna M. Helt, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, PA

Willa is looking forward to spending another fun summer on Cape Cod and auditioning for the local production of Our Town. She thinks that she and boyfriend, Joey, are perfect for the lead roles. She's also keeping busy planning weddings at the Bramble Inn, and preparing to become a big sister. But when the beautiful new girl ends up getting the lead in Our Town over Willa, Willa isn't sure what will become of her and Joey! I adore THE WEDDING PLANNER'S DAUGHTER series. Each book is like taking a vacation with Willa to Cape Cod, and they're the perfect summer reads. Willa's story gets better with each book and this one is no different. Willa is such a fun, bubbly person that you can't help but smile when you read about her and want to cheer her on through the tough times. They might look like a light read, but Ms. Paratore tackles some tough issues and handles them delicately, which makes this series more than just a light, fluffy read. Even though they are marketed mostly to the tween set, I've given this series to teens and adults alike who have fallen in love with Willa. At times reminiscent of classics such as ANNE OF GREEN GABLES, fans of old- fashioned stories will enjoy this series. I'll always be eager to read more about Willa and her life on Cape Cod.

I loved the way Coleen Paratore tied everything together... At a school book fair I bought the Cupid Chronicles, not knowing that there were others, but once I found out, I ordered both right away! I read them again in order, and I loved how this author explained some things from the previous books. Willa by Heart is my favorite book out of the series. I sure hope there's another one! All three books had me laugh, cry, feel what Willa was feeling!! If you loved the previous ones, you'll love this one even more!

This is soooooooo good. I can read it over and over and over again. Read it if you haven't and then read it again, because it is so good. You will like it unless you are goth and stuff. You probably won't like it so much if you are scary and goth and maybe even Emo. This is a good- no, GREAT- book.

This is a good book, unlike most tweenager books. But I dislike the main character Willa. To me she came across an egomaniac. Egomaniac: someone who is completely self absorbed. She is a real drama queen during some parts.
