This definitely ranks as one of, it not the, best Billings recording. It gives a wonderful overview of the different types of works he wrote, and includes several pieces I'd never heard before. The version of the masterpiece "Euroclydon" gave me real chills. Appling clearly did his homework and and he made a great recording.

There are a number of Billings albums available, and I happen to have them all (I think). This is the best. The sound, the repertoire, the singing.. . . all are extraordinary. I love the Hillier too, but this is the one.

William Billings is a vastly underrated composer. This album should be heard by anyone interested in the roots of American classical music.
