Children's LiteratureThe ninth president of the United States is the subject of this title in the "Getting to Know the U. S. Presidents" series. Since President Harrison was only president for thirty-two days, the author focuses mainly on Mr. Harrison's illustrious career as a soldier. His life is told from his birth in 1773 to his death in 1841. As in his other books, the author has given an accurate account of events and characters mentioned. A map of the Northwest Territory of 1787 is included, since William H. Harrison spent much of his life in that part of the United States. Several family portraits have been added, as well as comical illustrations of life in the late 18th century. Paintings of pioneer life are also provided. The author describes William Henry Harrison's presidential campaign, one of the things for which the short-term president is most noted. This is an excellent resource for any elementary student studying U. S. History. 2005, Children's Press/Scholastic Library Publishing, and Ages 6 to 10.
