A great book about a great man

This is a really good book for anybody wishing to gather more knowledge about Sir William Wallace. While I found it rather disparaging that the book exposed historical inaccuracies of the movie Braveheart, I gained a whole new appreciation for Wallace. Staying true to his beliefs, even in the face of the nobles abandoning him in favor of the 'kings peace' (if that was ever possible) is quite remarkable. A patriot to the end and trully lived by the motto: 'dico te verum, libertas optima rerum' (This I tell you truthfully, freedom is the best of all things).

The book makes no effort to place the events described in a better historical perspective. It begins presuming the reader is already a scholar of the subject.

This book assumes a great deal more of the reader than it should . It is better as a historic monograph for some research organization or historical society. The book begins by assuming that the reader is already very conversant with Scottish history...much more than any writer has a right to expect in selling to the general public.
